"Everything is fine." - Its the lie that never ends...well at least until that moment your inner Sally Field from Steele Magnolias breaks through.
Here we are again with more details about Wendy Williams' husband, Kevin Hunter, in an update on his cheating scandal as reported by Daily Mail Online.
In September, the breadwinner and brand that is Wendy Williams became her own hot topic when a year long investigation by The Daily Mail revealed that her husband, Kevin Hunter has been in a 10 year relationship with a sidepiece. The investigation was complete with public records and photos.
Wendy began her "everything is fine" singalong on her show after the report came out by flashing her large wedding ring stating, “Don’t believe the hype!"
We, the public, believe as a celebrity wife, that's what you are suppose to do, keep up the illusion that you have it all and re-assure "us regular folk" that the super woman imagine is real. She can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan but he never lets her forgets he's a man...that cheats.
Its the actions after the cheating that drowns out the "everything is fine" singalong. I will say that Wendy is really trying to turn up the volume on the singalong. Allowing the paparazzi to catch her "in the cutest négligée" was a nice try, but passing out during her show kinda is a giveaway that the stress of this situation-ship has gotten to her. And I am really speculating-but she will continue to sing this lie even when the news breaks that the sidepiece is pregnant (the picture they have of the sidepiece shows a FUPA). Again, this is more speculation on my part, if there is a pregnancy story, her people will spin it as a surrogate situation since their son will be leaving for college soon. It will start something like, "As a woman of a particular age..."
The "everything is fine" lie has been sung over the past few years by so many celebrity wives, I believe it charted on Billboard (not really). We, the public, are aware that celebrity marriages are also business partnerships perpetuating the image of love. We want to believe in, cheer for and sneer at these power couples. We want to believe that the celebrity wives-because they have money, power, notoriety and was able to attract & marry a powerful man that they should not care or be affected by their disrespect and humiliation. Only regular people are allowed to be affected by infidelity. But if Beyonce can forgive Jay-Z, then why can't we brush it off too?
Let me educate you on something, infidelity does hurt them too. Their trials causes more stress and strain because all eyes are on them. You see the "everything is fine" lie crumble with the look of contempt on the face of a former NBA player's wife as he apologizes for cheating on television or when a video surfaces of the wife of a famous hip hop artist grinding on his nemesis because the sidepiece had taken over, or when a superstar makes a full album about how she can please her man by asking the driver to roll up the partition, please but then comes clean about dealing with her husband's affair with a cool refreshing drink made of lemons.
The "everything is fine" lie for Wendy Williams has already started to crumble. Passing out on live television gives reason to speculate that everything is not fine. Wearing a negligee for the paparazzi was her way of attracting the attention of other men in an attempt to regain Kevin's affections. It didn't work, those photos aren't being circulated.
She will continue to stand by her man, like most celebrity wives, but will he stand by her? That's to be determined. Either way her strength as a woman will be questioned as she reacts to the threat to her marriage and her brand rather than being secure enough in herself to overcome all that has happened without manipulating everyone with the "everything is fine" singalong.
